Define: Federation
Specifically, we want cloud providers, regardless of location to be able to offer their resources to users that are ready to buy. Users on the other hand should be able to have a “home” provider or broker who they have a business relationship with, and still be able to obtain the cloud resources they need with just a few clicks – regardless of who the seller might be. Just like Expedia, Orbitz and other travel sites allow buyers and sellers (airlines, hotel chains, etc) to connect but the user still has a single, trusted point of contact. ScaleUp is providing the software platform that will power these business models.
Is ScaleUp creating a cloud marketplace?
Our goal is not to create, but rather to enable the market. Our vision since day one has been to solve the challenges at the “point of purchase” – that magical spot where a consumer and provider of cloud resources meet. Since announcing it in November, providers of public and private clouds are literally lining up to start using our Cloud Management Platform to connect with their users (needless to say, we are thrilled at the response!). Federation is the next step in improving the consumers overall cloud experience while expanding a providers ability to be successful.
Testers wanted!
The core functionality to support cloud federation has already left our development labs and we are ready to start testing. If you are a service provider using CA/3Tera AppLogic or OpenStack as your cloud platform and would like to help us refine and test the federation solutions, please email hello at scaleup.it
In Closing
ScaleUp has a lot planned for 2011 as we continue to rapidly innovate and deliver against our vision. Thank you for your continued support and stay tuned!
