AppLogic 3.0 and ScaleUp

CA Technologies today announced availability of the CA AppLogic 3.0 platform. The new AppLogic 3.0 is about simplicity, openness, ease of use in cloud computing and supports both VMWare ESX and Xen hypervisors. Some of the other new features include a localizable user interface, role based user access controls and vlan tagging support.

ScaleUp has been testing CA AppLogic 3.0 during its beta phase. One of the most important new features from our perspective is the new vlan tagging support. This has been a feature that most of our customers, who are mainly service providers, have been asking for. This new feature enables a service provider to offer their customers cloud based compute resources (such as VMs or complete application stacks) in the same network segment as their colocated or dedicated servers. Also, this makes it possible for a service provider to segregate customer traffic more easily.
The localizable user interface of AppLogic 3.0 fits nicely to our own internationalization support in the ScaleUp Cloud Management Platform.

Another brand new feature of CA AppLogic 3.0 is the support for VMWare ESX as a hypervisor. This is especially interesting for enterprise customers, who have already invested in VMWare. This also plays in nicely with an OVF import feature in AppLogic, which makes it more easy to import workloads from other systems.

Currently we are working on a Proof of Concept with a Managed Service Provider in the Asia-Pacific region and have already verified preliminary AppLogic 3.0 support for our ScaleUp Cloud Management Platform. Some of the new features in AppLogic 3.0 still have to be integrated into ScaleUp and we are working with our customers on making sure, that these new features will be as simple to use as the rest of our ScaleUp platform.
